There are twenty-one forms of Tara; the two most popular are the Green and the White Tara. In the Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism Tara is considered to be a symbol of the Enlightenment deeds of the Buddhas. She is the mother of all Buddhas. Tara is the goddess of Devotion; she is one of the four deities, Emanating Light: the Buddha, Mahakaruhika (Eleven-faced Bodhisattva of Compassion), Maitreya and Tara. Tara is the most popular goddess in Buddhism. She is the active power of compassion of Avalokiteshvara.
